Two Brave Faces

He sits alone in his car,
Travels fast but never that far,
Gathers more but feels much less,
Living life but it's a mess.

His brave face,
A hiding place,
An empty space,
Between the lines.

She sits alone in a bar,
Covers band playing guitars,
All ways looks at her best,
Misses her life in the nest.

Her brave face,
A hiding place,
An empty space,
Between the lines.

Tired eyes, brain never stops,
Hurt pride, emotional knocks,
Heads home but doesn't know why,
Forced smile. It's just a lie.

Two brave faces,
Hiding places,
Empty spaces,
Between the lines

He goes faster,
She sleeps with bastards,
They're just plasters,
To hide disasters.
Voices chatter,
Words don't flatter,
Do they matter?
Mind's in tatters.

Two brave faces,
Hiding places,
Empty spaces,
Between the lines

Clocks her when he goes past
Slowed down to check out her arse
Flash car catches her eye
He's a good looking guy

Two brave faces,
Hiding places,
Empty spaces,
Between the lines

She gets into the bed,
Drink went straight to her head,
He's still, nothing is said,
Why were they ever wed?

Two brave faces,
Hiding places,
Empty spaces,
Two brave faces,
Hiding places,
Empty spaces,
Between the lines
Between the lines

“He goes faster, she sleeps with bastards”

“This story of a man and a woman who are dealing with the same problem in their own ways is partly autobiographical. It’s easier to run away from personal problems than to deal with them head-on, all the time putting a brave face on things.

The bridge is lovingly known as the John Barnes rap in fond memory of said footballer’s part in the 1990 FIFA World Cup song, World in Motion.”
