A Change Is As Good As A Rest

Kisses the kids goodnight and then heads for the door She paints on camouflage as she goes off to war Pulls up her pulling pants like they're her uniform Anything or anyone hurts less than being ignored With all the lionesses, she hunts in her pack They swig prosecco down as they plan their attack Screaming to Taylor Swift at the top of her voice Divide and conquer the club as they make their choice Having fun any time you want to waiting for the best I might not be everything you want, but A change is as good as a rest (Can't you see?) A change is as good as a rest Dreams of the happy ending that's inside her head It's not so lonely there in someone else's bed She could have anyone, but not the one she wants Works through the pretty boys, but never more than once Having fun any time you want to waiting for the best I might not be everything you want, but A change is as good as a rest (Can't you see?) A change is as good as a rest Ignores reality while she chases a dream Hates all the guys she's with, destroys her self esteem Thinks she can do better, that this time he will stay Looking for comfort in the worst possible place Starlings on a hen night Saturday Getting ready to browse the buffet Gazing at the peacocks on display Till it's their turn to throw the bouquet Truth is that boys need girls far more than girls need boys She might go home alone, but she still has the choice She feels desired, while the plain boys are ignored or used for free drinks 'til the cougars all get bored I know I'm not the guy you wanted for yourself When everyone's swiped left I'll be left on the shelf Don't play those silly games you're playing anymore But if you change your mind then you know who to call Having fun any time you want to waiting for the best I might not be everything you want, but A change is as good as a rest (Can't you see?) A change is as good as a rest (Yes!) A change is as good as a rest
“For a pair of songwriters who have known each other for over 30 years, we’ve written very few songs just the two of us together. The genesis to this song occurred in the early days of Fat Statues.
Ronnie had the chorus already written, which was completely out of character for him – he wrote dark, brooding melodies with complex chords and this was pure pop. I wrote the music for the verse. We sat in a service station and brainstormed ideas for hours. We came up with an overall concept, but could not get any lyrics for the verse together. Ronnie got a parking ticket.
We sat on the song for about 2 years until one day I had an idea for the bridge on the way to work. I did very little work that day, and by the time I’d finished, the verses were written.
The song follows the goings on in the pubs and clubs of a provincial town of a group of women, draining the town dry of prosecco and eligible men. Our heroine is on a quest to find a long lasting stable committed relationship, but men who hang around in nightclubs disappear far quicker than the next day’s hangover.
Maybe a change is as good as a rest?”
